Biography

Professor Bokil received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Houston in 2003 under the direction of Professor Roland Glowinski. Before coming to Oregon State University, she was a postdoctoral research associate at the Center for Research in Scientific Computation at North Carolina State University, under the mentorship of Professor H.T. Banks. Bokil joined Oregon State University as an assistant professor of mathematics in 2006. Since 2018, she has served in multiple leadership roles including as Associate Head of Mathematics, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Science and Interim Dean of Science. She is currently a full professor of mathematics and is serving as the Executive Associate Dean in the College of Science.

Research

Professor Bokil's general research interests are in applied mathematics, scientific computing, numerical analysis and mathematical biology. Her primary research interests are in the numerical solution of wave propagation problems. Specifically, she has conducted research on the numerical solution of Maxwell's equations using a variety of finite difference and finite element methods, including mimetic finite difference methods, Spectral finite element methods, discontinuous Galerkin methods, and Virtual element methods. Bokil is also working on problems in mathematical ecology which involve the construction and analyses of deterministic and stochastic models for applications in population dynamics, epidemiology and spatial ecology. Dr. Bokil has received research funding from the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy on a variety of projects in computational electromagnetics and mathematical Biology. She has also received funding from the FACE Foundation to conduct Transaltlantic research, with collaborators in France, on problems in mathematical ecology. Currently, Professor Bokil's interests span a variety of areas in nonlinear electromagnetics and magnetohydrodynamics and recently in physics informed neural networks.
