New student processional and convocation

Each fall, Oregon State officially welcomes new students during the New Student Convocation ceremony. Students are expected to attend in person or participate via the live stream.

12:30 p.m. – Student line-up

New students will line up by college in the Memorial Union (MU) Quad. Look for the orange College of Science banner!

1 p.m. – Processional

  • New students will participate in the New Student Walk down 26th Street.
  • Students gather with their academic colleges and proceed from the Memorial Union Quad to Reser Stadium for the New Student Convocation ceremony with OSU senior leadership. This tradition, right at the beginning of your academic journey, mirrors the procession you’ll partake in at the end. The next time you line up with fellow students in your college and travel this route, you’ll be on the way to receive your diploma.

1:30 p.m. – Convocation ceremony + Orange and Black Rally

  • Convocation held in Reser Stadium.
  • Each fall, Oregon State officially welcomes new students during the New Student Convocation Ceremony.  Convocation, which literally translates to "come together," is another ceremony that bookends the Oregon State University academic year. While commencement celebrates graduates, convocation celebrates new students — in Corvallis and online.
