On October 24, 2022, the College of Science community gathered to celebrate this year’s Alumni Award recipients. These awards publicly recognize our alumni, friends, and colleagues for their distinguished personal and career achievements, service, and contributions to society that reflect positively on the College of Science and on Oregon State University.
The College of Science is excited to welcome eight new faculty members this fall. They bring diverse expertise in gravitational wave astronomy, applied topology, organometallic compounds, age-dependent diseases and more.
Giulia Wood’s summer activities — or, in her case, winter — have included polar plunges into the Southern Ocean, listening to cracking glaciers and conducting research on Antarctic krill.
When honors student Sahana Shah ran for the student House of Representatives, she won the election with the most votes of any candidate. One of her main platforms? Helping establish a disability cultural center to better adapt the campus to the needs of neurodiverse students. She is now joining forces with other student groups to bring the idea to life.
Third-year Honors biochemistry and biophysics student Grace Petrina is committed to volunteering her time and talent, involved in a host of local community outreach efforts.
Honors Biochemistry and Molecular Biology junior Gretchen Fujimura is one of two Oregon State students to receive the 2022 Goldwater Scholarships, the nation’s top undergraduate award for sophomores and juniors in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
University Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics Michael Freitag will present the College of Science 2022 F.A. Gilfillan Memorial Lecture on May 3.
