Dental Admission Test

The DAT is computerized and offered through the Thomson/Prometric Centers. You should prepare well and will usually take the exam the year in which you apply. The DAT is offered throughout the year. Go to the American Dental Association (ADA) website to register, get your DENTPIN, and do not worry about selecting some dental schools to receive your score - all schools will receive your score directly from ADA. There are sample questions on the website and you can purchase a sample test.

The DAT is given most days of the year. It is required by all U.S. dental schools. It is offered at specified Prometric Testing Centers in Eugene, Portland and Bend.

When should I take the test?

• When you have completed your prerequisites in biology, general chemistry, and organic chemistry.
• It is recommended that you take the test at least one year before you want to go to dental school. Most of those who take the DAT do so after their third year of college.
• Check with the dentals schools you are interested in to see if they have an age limit for an acceptable DAT score.

Remember you must wait 60 days to retake the DAT, so it is in your best interest to take it by early spring in case you need to take it again. Please release your scores to your advisor to help us track your progress.
